Description
Plinky Plonk
for Solo Piano
Duration: ca. 3′
by Edward Caine
This piece was written for Ian Pace on his 50th birthday. It is based on Jazz in the general sense and opens with a figure based on stride piano. It is very much written with Ian’s fearsome pianistic skills in mind, with difficult cross rhythms and fast passages. The tongue in cheek title Plinky Plonk refers to the terms in which new music on the piano is often couched (“it’s all plinky plonk music”). The piece aims to be anything but plinky-plonk and it remains one of my favourite piano pieces.
