Membra Summus Corporis Magni
for SSAATTBB with solo
duration: 2′
Words: Seneca the Younger (4 BC – AD 65)
Music by Edward Caine
This is a short setting of the Bootham School latin motto “Member Summus Corporis Magni which I wrote while I was a Musician in Residence at that school. The motto is nicely universal:
Membra Summus Corporis Magni
We are members of a greater body
and is a quote from Seneca the Younger (Epistle 95, 52). This setting owes a debt of influence to Eric Whitacre.
